Middleware nodes collection

Middleware nodes include all the nodes in your configuration. These nodes can include nodes that have a version of the product installed, or nodes that are running other types of servers.

To view this administrative console page, click System administration > Middleware nodes.

Table 1. Middleware node actions
Action What you can do with the action
Select an administrative action and click Perform. Perform administrative actions:
Add a node
Adds a node to the administrative environment.
Remove a node
Deletes the selected nodes. If the node does not get removed with this action, use the Delete a node action.
Delete a node
Forces the removal of a node that is not removed properly from the cell in the master repository. The Remove a node action is preferred over the Delete a node action to delete a node from the configuration.
Synchronize a node
Requests that a node synchronization operation be performed using the normal synchronization optimization algorithm. This operation is fast, but might not fix problems from manual file edits that occur on the node. It is still possible for the node and cell configuration to be out of synchronization after this operation is performed.
Full synchronize
Clears all synchronization optimization settings and performs configuration synchronization, so there is no mismatch between node and cell configuration after this operation is performed. This operation can take longer than the Synchronize operation.
Select an operational action and click Run. Perform operational actions on your selected middleware nodes:
Stop agent
Stops the agent process on the selected nodes. The status of these nodes must be Started.
Start agent
Starts the agent process on the selected nodes.
Restart agent
Restarts the agent process on the selected nodes.
Restart all servers
Restarts all the servers that are on the selected nodes.
Run discovery
Forces a run of all sensors. The sensors can discover Apache, WebSphere® Application Server Community Edition, and PHP runtimes.
Select a mode and click Set mode. By setting maintenance mode, you can perform diagnostics, maintenance, or tuning on the node without disrupting incoming traffic to the server in a production environment.
Maintenance
Moves the mode to maintenance mode after the remaining requests on the node are served.
Maintenance immediate stop
Moves the node to maintenance mode without serving the remaining requests on the node.
Normal
Moves the node out of maintenance mode, so the servers on the node can begin to serve requests from the on demand router.

Name

Specifies a name for a node that is unique within the cell.

A node corresponds to a physical computer system with a distinct IP host address. The node name is usually the same as the host name for the computer.

Version

Specifies the product version of the node.

The product version is the version of WebSphere Application Server.
Table 2. Node product versions
Version value Product name
Base WebSphere Application Server
Express® WebSphere Application Server Express
ND WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment

Synchronization

Specifies if the configuration files on this middleware node are synchronized with the deployment manager.

To synchronize nodes, select the nodes that you want to synchronize. Choose the Synchronize or Full synchronize option from administrative actions, and click Perform.

Table 3. Middleware node synchronization
Icon Action Description
Synchronized Synchronized The configuration files on this node are synchronized with the deployment manager.
Not synchronized Not synchronized The configuration files on this node are not synchronized with the deployment manager and are out-of-date. Perform a synchronize operation to get the latest configuration changes on the node.
unknown Unknown The state of the configuration file cannot be determined because the node agent cannot be reached for this node.
not applicable Not applicable The status column is not applicable for this node because the node is an unmanaged node.

Status

Indicates the status of the agent that is running on the node.

Table 4. Middleware node status
Icon Action Description
Started Started The node is running.
Stopped Stopped The node is not running.
unknown Unknown The status of the node is not available.
not applicable Not applicable The status of the node is not applicable because the status is not reported to the deployment manager.

Maintenance mode

Specifies the maintenance mode status of the node.

Table 5. Middleware node maintenance mode
Icon Action Description
maintenance mode Maintenance mode The node is in maintenance mode, and is no longer serving requests, so you can perform administrative actions on this node. While in maintenance mode, the node can be either started or stopped. When the node is started and in maintenance mode, the on demand router does not route HTTP or SIP traffic to the node.
Normal mode The node is serving requests.
