Define service policy general properties

Create service policies, the main building blocks of an operational policy, according to the guidelines on this page.

To view this administrative console page, click Operational policies > Service policies > New.

To create, modify, or remove service policies and transaction classes, you must have administrator or configurator administrative privileges.

Name

The name field is required and is a user defined field. The name field cannot contain the following characters: \ / , : ; " * ? < > | = + & % ' # The name defined must be unique among service policies and cannot begin with a . or a space. A space does not generate an error, but leading and trailing spaces are automatically deleted. Create meaningful service policy names that are used consistently. For example, PLATINUM, GOLD, SILVER, and BRONZE are good service policy names.

Description

The description field is complementary to the name field and is user defined. This field is optional, but in environments with multiple administrators, you must complete this field with useful information. For example, a description field for a PLATINUM policy might read, "The PLATINUM service policy is reserved for the highest priority work."

Goal type

This is a selectable field that can be one of four values:

Note: If the cell custom property disableResponseTimeGoals=true, a goal type of importance will display for service policy goal types. This goal type is utilized to establish that only the importance aspect of the service policy will be used.
